Consultative meeting of the Climate Commission for the Sahel Region
22 Sep 2019 -  With an area of about 10 million km2, the climatic Sahel extends from the Atlantic Ocean to the Horn of Africa and constitutes a space characterized by a mosaic of contrasting eco-climatic zones. The ecosystems that characterize it are subject to a high degree of climatic variability, which is reflected in changes in rainfall patterns, extreme temperatures, and recurring droughts with perceptible effects on agricultural land, pastures and water availability.
The meeting aims at continuing to mobilize the attention of the international community on the Sahel region and thus serve as a framework that can help to mobilize the various actors for a better synergy of climate actions and this, within the framework of the implementation of the Climate investments Plan for the Sahel Region (CIP-SR).
