Observance of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People - 398th meeting of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People
27 Nov 2019 -  The International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People is an annual observance that was called for by General Assembly resolution 32/40 B on 2 December 1977 to commemorate the adoption by the General Assembly of resolution 181 (II) on 29 November 1947 partitioning the mandate of Palestine into two States. Events commemorating this date are held at the UN Headquarters in New York as well as at UN offices at Geneva, Nairobi and Vienna and other cities around the world.
The speakers at the special meeting will include H.E. Niang Cheikh, Chairman of the Committee, H.E. Mr. Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, the President of the General Assembly, H.E. Ms. Karen Pierce, the President of the Security Council, Ms. Maria Luiza Ribeiro Viotti, Chef de Cabinet of the Secretary-General of the United Nations, H.E. Mr. Riyad Mansour, Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine to the United Nations, H.E. Ms. Kshenuka Dhireni Senewiratne, the Chair of the UN Special Committee on Illegal Israeli Practices, as well as representatives of other intergovernmental organizations. This year, Mr. Eugene “Gus” Newport, a civil rights activist and former Mayor of Berkley (California) will speak as representative of civil society at the end of the special meeting.
