13 May 2016 -  Currently 60% of preventable maternal deaths and over 53% of under-5 preventable deaths occur in disaster and conflict situations, making risk reduction, delivery, and financing approaches for these settings a critical focuses of the World Humanitarian Summit, and in achieving the SDGs. The briefing will provide an opportunity for Member States, the United Nations, civil society, and partners to discuss the objectives of the 5-year plan and how they are going to be met; its linkages with efforts on education, WASH, nutrition, climate, and energy (“whole of person” services); and engagement in major international processes, from Habitat III to COP22, that can address both preventative and emergency response for mothers and children.
Organized by the Permanent Mission of the United Arab Emirates to the United Nations.
