20 Apr 2021 -  The UN launched a $29 million funding appeal Tuesday, 20 April 2021 to aid citizens of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. An eruption at La Soufrière volcano in the Caribbean country left the entire population of the main island without clean water and electricity. UN Resident Coordinator for Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, Didier Trebucq called the situation “Apocalyptic and desolate” as he visits the region to assess response and recovery efforts. As Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves joined Mr. Trebucq at a press conference, he described the level of damage to the most attractive part of the country. “It’s all gone.”, he said.
