20 Sep 2019 -  Briefing by Reem Abaza, Spokesperson for the President of the 74th Session of the General Assembly.

International Day of Peace
This morning the President of the General Assembly Tijjani Muhammad-Bande participated in the Peace Bell Ceremony on the occasion of the 38th anniversary of the International Day of Peace.
Mr. Muhammad-Bande said in his remarks that the connections between climate change and hunger, migration and conflict are painfully clear. The necessity to deal with them must, therefore, be very clear to us. He also emphasized the leadership role played by youth all over the world.

Walk the Talk
On Sunday Mr. Muhammad-Bande will participate in “Walk the Talk” event organized by World Health Organization (WHO) in Central Park in the context of the convening of High-Level Meeting on Universal Health Care which takes place a day later on 23 September at the United Nations Headquarters.
The president of the General Assembly believes that access to health services is a human right and that ensuring universal health coverage is one way to eradicate poverty, address inequalities and secure economic growth.

High Level Events
This meeting on Universal health coverage, which will be presided by the PGA, is the first HL meeting to be held at the UN abut this issue.
We will see another first on Tuesday and Wednesday, when the General Assembly holds the first UN Summit on the sustainable development goals since the adoption of the 2030 agenda in 2015.
A political declaration will be submitted to the summit for endorsement at its opening session.
