Galvanize Political Action to Eliminate Female Genital Mutilation By 2030
27 Sep 2018 -  Over 200 million girls and women have been subjected to female genital mutilation (FGM) in 30 countries with data. Across these 30 countries the prevalence of FGM has dropped by about one third over the past three decades. This is still unacceptable considering all the framework, efforts and political will that have been exerted. Yet, without concerted and accelerated actions, another 68 million girls are likely to undergone FGM by 2030.

This event will launch a political champions initiative to protect the 68 million girls at risk of FGM by 2030, if current trends continue. The partnership will foster a cadre of champions from African, European, Arab States Members States dedicated to accelerate the elimination of Female Genital Mutilation by:

Advocating for increased global, regional and domestic resources to address the harmful practice of FGM;

Creating spaces and opportunities over the next years for assessing progress, remaining gaps and challenges and galvanize more actions.
