Celebrating International Day of Yoga 2016 at United Nations - Yoga for SDGs
21 Jun 2016 -  The celebration of the 2016 International Day of Yoga was held at the United Nations Secretariat Circle (in front of the UN Secretariat Building), New York.
The event was organized by the Permanent Mission of India to the UN in association with the Department of Public Information, UN.

This was the second annual celebration of the International Day of Yoga at the UN. The UN General Assembly Resolution A/Res/69/131, which was adopted by acclamation in December 2014 with a record number of 177 co-sponsoring member states, established the International Day of Yoga for observance by the United Nations on 21 June each year. The first such celebration at the UN was held on 21 June 2015.

Speakers: The President of the General Assembly, Mr. Morgens Lykketoft; Under Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information, Ms. Cristina Gallach, delivered a message from United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. Ambassador Syed Akbaruddin, Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations welcomed the guests. The celebration was led by Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev, a renowned Mystic, and included simple Yoga pratice and a musical incantation on Yoga.
