Since 2012, 11 October has been marked as the International Day of the Girl.

The day aims to highlight and address the needs and challenges girls face, while promoting girls' empowerment and the fulfillment of their human rights. 2019 Theme — GirlForce: Unscripted and Unstoppable.

The Working Group on Girls (WGG) is a coalition of over 80 national and international non-governmental organizations with representation at the United Nations dedicated to:
promoting the human rights of the girl child in all areas and stages of her life,
advancing the inclusion and status of girls, and
assisting them to develop their full potential as women.

Participants:
-  6 girl activists from various countries will speak about their work
-  5 girls will perform original poetry, monologues and songs and will introduce video created and written by girls from around the world
-  WGG Girl Advocates will moderate and serve as subject/ content presenters in the Girls Speak Out

Hosted:
-  In partnership with the Governments of Canada, Peru and Turkey at the United Nations. The Working Group on Girls will manage and produce the event.
