(Part 2) High-level Arria-formula meeting ’75 Years since the end of the Second World War in Europe: lessons for the prevention of international crimes in the future, the responsibility of the Security Council
8 May 2020 -  75 years ago, the Second World War ended on European soil. We discussed the lessons of the post-war world order, how to prevent international crimes in the future and protect peace, and what the responsibility of the UN Security Council is. We also addressed what we can learn from the past to help respond to the current global COVID-19 crisis.
The meeting was one of the signature events of Estonia’s presidency of the Security Council and brought together nearly 50 foreign ministers from across the world.
Briefers: High Representative of the European Union Josep Borrell Fontelles, UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo, and Professor of Yale University Timothy Snyder. The meeting was moderated by Foreign Minister of Estonia Urmas Reinsalu.
After statements from the briefers, the floor was given to Council members, followed by interventions from other UN member states.
The event was powered by Hybridity, a COVID-19 safe virtual event platform developed in Estonia.
