(S/2020/531) Extract from the Ninth report of the Secretary-General on the Implementation of Security Council resolution 2231 (2015)
"The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, concluded on 14 July 2015, was the result of 12 years of intense diplomacy and dialogue. The Plan was subsequently endorsed by the Security Council in its resolution 2231 (2015), in which the Council called upon all Member States, regional organizations and international organizations to support the implementation thereof. Since then, the international community has expressed strong support for the Plan. The Plan is a testament to the efficacy of multilateralism and is a success in nuclear non-proliferation. It remains the best way to ensure the exclusively peaceful nature of the nuclear programme of the Islamic Republic of Iran and secure tangible economic benefits for the Iranian people. It is essential that the Plan continue to work for all its participants, and that issues not directly related to the Plan be addressed without prejudice to preserving the agreement and its accomplishments."
