Addressing the terrorism-arms-crime nexus: Preventing and combating the illicit trafficking of small-arms and light weapons and their illicit supply to terrorists - Event launch
21 Feb 2020 -  Co-organized by the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, the United Nations Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate and the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs..
The international community has expressed increasing concerns at the nexus between terrorism and multiple forms of organized crime, in particular at the illicit trafficking in small arms and light weapons (SALW). Terrorists benefit from organized crime to procure their materials and to support their activities. Illicitly trafficked and acquired SALW, their parts and components and ammunition are used as the funding source and threat multiplier of terrorist acts.
The event will help to raise the awareness and provide an overview of the problem, the solutions and on-going initiatives at the national, regional and international level. It will also present the project activities including (1) needs assessment missions, (2) legislative assistance workshops, (3) trainings for justice, customs and border control official, and (4) information sharing workshops.
