Financing for Development: SDG Media Zone during the 2019 High-level Political Forum (HLPF 2019 Side Event)
9 Jul 2019 -  Elliot Harris, UN Chief Economist, Chris Skinner, Writer and FinTech Commentator, Matthew Blake, Head, Future of Financial and Monetary Systems, World Economic Forum on financing for development. The SDG Media Zone takes place during the General Assembly and other high-level events at the United Nations to engage, recognize and celebrate people's efforts to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Four years ago, countries adopted the SDGs—a bold, ambitious, and historic agenda—to promote prosperity and well-being while protecting the environment by 2030. Also known as a plan for people and planet, the 17 Goals focus on the three dimensions of sustainable development—economic, social and environmental.

In July, the SDG Media Zone will take place during the High-level Political Forum (9 to 18 July) - a key stocktaking event that sets the stage for major SDG-related summits during the forthcoming 74th UN General Assembly in September. The Media Zone will host government, civil society and private sector leaders as well as experts, celebrities and other change-makers committed to global good, and feature live programming, interactive exhibits and interview opportunities.

Live programming, including panel discussions, interviews, Ted-style Talks and presentations, is expected to take place between 12 p.m. and 3 p.m. and will be streamed live on UN Web TV and promoted on various social media platforms. In 2018 alone, the #SDGLive hashtag had a potential reach of 283 million. The Media Zone is organized by the UN Department of Global Communications (DGC) with support from the Public Foundation and the UN Foundation.
