Sourcing Sustainable Solutions for the AIDS response in Africa: Shared Responsibility and Global Solidarity
The session will provide a critical opportunity to build political consensus around a novel approach to development cooperation to support implementation of the recently-adopted African Union Roadmap on Shared Responsibility and Global Solidarity for AIDS, TB and Malaria and to achieve the goals of the 2011 Political Declaration on HIV/AIDS by 2015.
The event will be attended by several high-level dignitaries, including Heads of State and Government, Ministers and First Ladies from Africa as well as development partners.
The side event seeks to:
- Generate commitment from partners to support the implementation of the solutions put forward in the AU Roadmap, including strengthening local pharmaceutical manufacturing capacity and regional and continental medicines regulatory harmonization through expanded south-south and triangular cooperation;
- Foster a debate around a global compact of shared responsibility among countries and emerging and traditional partners on contributing fair-share investments – where partners meet their commitments and support innovative financing mechanisms and countries introduce and scale up approaches to mobilizing domestic resources – in the context of a transition to a more sustainable financing model for the post-2015 development framework;
- Identify more strategic investment approaches to maximize value-for-money and place greater emphasis on equality, effectiveness and efficiency for stronger results.
