Invaluable Lessons Learned from the Chernobyl Disaster and Other World Tragedies
26 Jun 2019 - A roundtable discussion will focus on successes and best practices in dealing with medical, psychological and environmental impacts of such dramatic events as the Chernobyl nuclear accident, nuclear tests at the Semipalatinsk test site, 9/11 attacks and other relevant events. The discussion will be led by Dr. Daniel Igor Branovan, Founder and President of Project Chernobyl and renowned researcher, with participation of UN ambassadors, representatives from UN System organisations and the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Multimedia presentation will include Philip Grossman’s photography exhibition 500,000 Voices of Chernobyl and a musical symphony Chernobyl by Mikael Tariverdiev. Over 18 years of its existence, Project Chernobyl, a leading UN accredited non-profit organisation, has developed groundbreaking methods for diagnosis and treatment of radiation-incurred thyroid cancer in the United States. Tens of thousands of patients-at-risk have undergone screening programmes developed and implemented by Project Chernobyl, and hundreds of thyroid cancer cases have been diagnosed and successfully treated.
