Stop natural hazards from becoming disasters
5 Nov 2019 -  Natural hazards don’t have to become disasters. With investments in resilient infrastructure, the world can protect communities and individuals from the devastation caused by earthquakes, tsunamis and other extreme weather events. Mami Mizutori, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction, discusses how the world can prepare for a safer and more sustainable future. World Tsunami Awareness Day, marked each year on 5 November, is an opportunity to raise awareness of the value of investing in resilient infrastructure, early warning systems, and education to save people and protect their assets against tsunami risk in the future.
