UN envoy flags critical importance of helping children affected by armed conflict
8 Feb 2017 - The world can never overlook the importance of helping children who are affected by armed conflict, given that the future of every nation and humanity is at stake, UN envoy Leila Zerrougui has said. Ms. Zerrougui's remarks come as the UN marks the 20th anniversary of the mandate of her office as the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict. Speaking to UN News on the occasion, Ms. Zerrougui outlined the global achievements made during the past two decades, in terms of raising awareness about the plight of children in armed conflict, while noting the challenges faced in aiding children caught in conflict settings, which now oftentimes transcend national borders.
