Lang Lang designated United Nations Messenger of Peace
28 Oct 2013 -  Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today designated world-renowned pianist Lang Lang from China as a United Nations Messenger of Peace with a special focus on global education.
One of the world's greatest living pianists, Lang Lang from China, has been designated as a United Nations Messenger of Peace. He will help to raise worldwide awareness about the international organization, focusing on global education. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:

Messengers of Peace are widely recognized talents in the fields of arts and sports. Lang Lang, a child prodigy, began playing the piano at three. He has worked with many of the greatest orchestras, performing at the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics and playing for leaders worldwide. Lang Lang is also an advocate for children, through UNICEF, The UN Children's Fund. He said his new role as Messenger of Peace is a great honour. And it makes him a little bit nervous too:

With 57 million children still out of school, Lang Lang wants to contribute to improving the lives of children everywhere:
