Message by President of the General Assembly on World Bee Day
19 May 2020 -  On World Bee Day the President of the UN General Assembly Tijjani Muhammad-Bande emphasized the need to acknowledge the role of the bee in food security and biodiversity.
He said “Throughout the 74th session of the General Assembly we have given due attention to poverty eradication and zero hunger. Small as they are, bees underpin our food systems. Close to three-quarters of the world’s crops depend, at least in part, on bees and other pollinators. In economic terms, natural pollinators contribute up to $577 billion to the global economy.”
