The policing mandate of UNAMID in Darfur, Sudan
4 Nov 2016 -  Police Commissioner Priscilla Makotose, the most senior police women serving the United Nations, explains the policing mandate of the African Union - United Nations Mission in Darfur (UNAMID). The police priorities of UNAMID are the protection of civilians and creating a protective environment for communities in Darfur.
United Nations Police is deployed in 12 peacekeeping operations, as well as 6 Special Political Missions to help restore confidence in host-State police and rule of law structures and serving to protect civilians, providing electoral and border security and management, limiting the effects of transnational organised crime, investigating and preventing cases of sexual and gender-based violence.
