The Intersection between Peace, Diversity and Disability - COSP13 Side Event
2 Dec 2020 -  In 2019, the United Nations Security Council unanimously adopted its first-ever resolution (Resolution 2475) on the intersection between disability and peace and security. The resolution provides new nexus between peace, diversity and disability, based on the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, in particular Article 11 on situations of risk and humanitarian emergencies.
The Panel Discussion will discuss 1) the resolution and its implementation, 2) intersectionality with other diversity issues including exclusion of refugees, older persons and youth and peace and security, and 3) the way forward to achieve peaceful, just and inclusive society for all, based on protection and promotion of the rights of persons with disabilities in the armed conflict envisioned in the resolution.
The Panel Discussion will also broadcast 7-min video on testimony on diversity and inclusion among older persons and persons with disabilities who have experienced the armed conflict.
