Olympian Yusra Mardini appointed as UN refugee agency's youngest-ever Goodwill Ambassador
27 Apr 2017 -  Olympic Athlete Yusra Mardini becomes the youngest Goodwill Ambassador in the history of the UN refugee agency (UNHCR). The 19-year-old Syrian was part of the first-ever refugee team, which competed in the Rio Olympics in 2016. UNHCR speaks highly of Ms. Mardini's resilience, courage and perseverance, noting that her new role sends "a powerful message of hope" to over 21 million refugees worldwide, half of whom are under the age of 18.
