4 Mar 2020 -  Javier Pérez de Cuéllar, who served as United Nations Secretary-General for a turbulent decade beginning in 1982, has left a legacy of peace around the world through his efforts to foster dialogue, bring parties together and facilitate successful negotiations. The first Latin American Secretary-General, he remained true to the values of the United Nations long after his term ended, advocating for peace, justice, human rights and human dignity throughout his life.
