U Thant of Myanmar (formerly known as Burma), served two terms at the helm of the United Nations. He was first appointed in an acting capacity in 1961 - in the aftermath of his predecessor's death - followed by two unanimous appointments for a full term, respectively, in 1962 and 1966.
