UN rights office urges civilian protection, as fighting continues in Mosul
28 Mar 2017 -  The UN human rights office, OHCHR, has called for the protection of civilians in the Iraqi city of Mosul, where reports revealed that at least 307 civilians have died, and 273 injured since 17 February 2017. Briefing the press in Geneva, OHCHR deplored the situation, in which some civilians in Mosul were used by ISIL as human shields, while others were shot by extremists in the back while fleeing for their lives. Meanwhile, OHCHR has welcomed the announcement that Iraqi Government security forces and international coalition forces are investigating some of the most serious incidents resulting from their airstrikes.
