Delivering on Shared Commitments: A Dialogue Between Member States, the UN and Civil Society on Action for Peacekeeping
16 Oct 2018 -  In the face of growing and novel challenges facing United Nations peacekeeping operations, the UN Secretary-General launched his Action for Peacekeeping initiative (A4P) in March 2018. The overarching goal of A4P is to rally political support and collective action to strengthen UN peacekeeping operations.
A central component of A4P is the Declaration of Shared Commitments on UN Peacekeeping Operations, a political document consisting of commitments made by the Secretariat, partner organisations, and Member States in their various capacities as peacekeeping host countries, Security Council members, troop, police and financial contributors and as donors.
The political capital must now be translated into implementation of the commitments contained in the Declaration. The endorsers of the Declaration must now walk the talk.
This Panel discussion is the first of a two-part series of discussions for Member States, the Secretariat and civil society to exchange views on A4P.
