António Guterres (UN Secretary-General) meets with Muslim religious leaders in New Zealand
14 May 2019 -  UN chief António Guterres made his annual visit of solidarity to Chirstchurch, New Zealand. He met with Muslim religious leaders and community representatives to express a message of condolences, and respect. He said the United Nations stands in solidarity with the people of New Zealand in their efforts to combat the intolerance and bigotry that led to the attacks. Also, Guterres highlighted an action plan to fully mobilize the UN system’s response to hate speech, led by the Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide; and for a plan to protect religious sites.
In Chirstchurch, he visited Al Noor Mosque and Linwood Islamic Centre.
