Supporting Member States to achieve the Non-communicable Diseases (NDC)-Related Sustainable Development Goals Targets
23 Sep 2019 -  This session will review the current work of the Task Force and will agree ways to provide ever more effective UN system support to enable countries to scale up their responses to the Non-communicable Diseases (NCD) related Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) targets. The session will also highlight how Member States are responding to the NCD epidemic.
The WHO-led UN Inter-Agency Task Force on the Prevention and Control of Non-communicable Diseases provides coordinated UN system support to Member States across the NCD-related SDGs.
Objectives of the side event:
To review the current work of the Task Force and agree how the UN system can better support countries to scale up their responses to the NCD-related SDG targets.
To highlight how Member States and development partners are responding to the NCD epidemic.
To review how the Task Force, Member States and development partners are responding to recent ECOSOC resolutions regarding the work of the Task Force.
To launch: (i) a set of NCD UN agency briefs; (ii) a set of case studies providing examples of activities among members of the Task Force; and (iii) a WHO primer on heath taxes.
To announce the winners of the 2019 Task Force Awards.
