100 years of Social Protection with the ILO: The road to universal social protection systems and floors - CSocD57 Side Event
12 Feb 2019 -  The ILO 100th anniversary reaffirms a shared commitment to achieving social justice, notably through universal social protection.
Over the past 100 years many countries have developed more comprehensive social security systems embedded in law. Despite significant progress, the large majority of the global population, notably workers in the informal economy, enjoys only limited protection, if any at all.
The ILO estimates that today more than half of the world’s population live without any form of social protection. This massive gap is not acceptable from a human rights perspective. It is also a missed opportunity from a developmental point of view. This event will provide an opportunity to share best practices in countries on achieving social protection for all.
