2019 World Environment Day Celebration - Theme: Air Pollution
4 Jun 2019 -  World Environment Day, is celebrated annually on the 5th of June. It is the United Nations flagship day for encouraging global awareness and action to protect our environment. Since it began 45 years ago, this event has grown to become a global platform for public outreach that is widely celebrated in over 100 countries. The theme for World Environment Day 2019 is ‘Air Pollution’. Air pollution, often referred to as the ‘silent’ killer, is a global health emergency. According to the World Health Organization, approximately 90 per cent of people worldwide breathe polluted air, causing nearly 7 million premature deaths annually. The discussion will focus on policy and actions to reduce air pollution and linkages between air pollution, environment, health and climate change. It is also an opportunity to share and exchange practical and actionable solutions and strategies for successful and efficient implementation.
