40th anniversary of the International Ombudsman Institute
30 Apr 2018 -  The International Ombudsman Institute (IOI) was established in 1978 and is the only global organisation for the cooperation of more than 180 independent Ombudsman institutions from more than 100 countries worldwide. Ombudsman institutions form an important part of constitutional reality and make contributions to implementing the rule of law, monitoring good public administration, protecting and promoting human rights and fighting corruption.

The IOI is committed to promoting the Ombudsman concept and it does so in a variety of ways: it encourages the creation of Ombudsman institutions where they do not exist, it promotes information exchange and shared learning through conferences and training initiatives and it funds research and regional projects.

The event aims to:
- Provide a platform for exchange between the IOI, the United Nations and other relevant stakeholders
- Discuss the role of Ombudsman institutions in implementing the Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals and to identify the challenges, opportunities and best practices in this context Launch the recent publication of the IOI on the history of the International Ombudsman Institute (IOI).
