Africa's Year of Human Rights with a particular focus on the Rights of Women: Opportunities and Challenges - CSW Side Event
17 Mar 2016 -  The UN Office of the Special Adviser on Africa (OSAA) and the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in New York will jointly convene a panel discussion on "Africa's Year of Human Rights with a particular focus on the Rights of Women: Opportunities & Challenges" during the 60th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women. The event will take place on Thursday 17 March 2016, in Conference Room 12 from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. The theme of the event is closely linked to the global 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the African Union's transformative Agenda 2063, as both these development agendas are grounded on the principles of human rights. The African Union has chosen this theme for 2016 to encourage African member states to renew their commitment towards human rights and to consolidate their gains. The event will engage decision makers from the African continent and beyond in an open and frank discussion to address the opportunities and challenges related to human rights in Africa and women's rights in particular women's rights.
