Celebrating Cairo and Going Beyond - CDP47 Side Event
A Side-Event organized by the High-Level Task Force for the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) and co-hosted by the Governments of Argentina, Brazil, Finland, Germany, Liberia, Mexico, Mongolia, Mozambique, Slovenia and South Africa, and others TBC.
The theme of the event is Celebrating Cairo & Going Beyond. While commemorating the landmark International Conference on Population and Development held in Cairo in 1994, the event also aims to garner support for a bold, progressive international agreement for the ICPD Beyond 2014 at this critical point in the review process, as well as for the new global development agenda that will replace the Millennium Development Goals after 2015. Leading global figures in the field of human rights will discuss what bold actions can be taken to ensure that gender equality and the sexual and reproductive rights of women and young people are truly advanced through ongoing intergovernmental processes. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights and other illustrious panelists will be accompanied by video presentations and a musical performance by Tony Award nominee Constantine Maroulis and Founder/CEO of R.Evolución Latina, Luis Salgado, along with their students and artists-in-training.
