India: Millet Madness
Millets used to be a staple food in India, but in the last five decades, almost half of their cultivation has been replaced with more lucrative cash crops, resulting in a major change in people's diets. Millets have up to 30 times more calcium than rice and are also far more resilient to a changing climate. The International Fund for Agricultural Development, IFAD, is working with a research foundation to get millet back on the menu.
