Kyrgyzstan: Land of the Bees
Amid widespread poverty, farmers in the mountains of Kyrgyzstan are struggling to protect the land on which they depend for their livelihoods. Overgrazing of the land has increased the risk of landslides, a threat which became a reality for local school teacher, Ulanbek Kasymov. With the help of a capacity-building project known as ‘PALM’, supported by the United Nations and the Kyrgyz government, Ulanbek and his neighbours now engage in honey production to boost their income.
