Legislating for women's Economic Empowerment in Ibero-America - CSW63 Side Event
12 Mar 2019 -  The elimination of discriminatory constitutional and legislative provisions continues to be a persisting challenge and an urgent priority for the achievement of gender equality and the full realization of women’s human rights. This is the case for Ibero-America, where despite the almost disappearance of openly discriminatory laws, formal barriers that limit or restrict women’s economic empowerment still persist in political and normative frameworks that regulate social, economic and family life. The high-level panel “Legislating for Women’s Economic Empowerment in Ibero-America” will present the main findings of a study commissioned by Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB) and UN Women on legal barriers for women’s economic empowerment, as well as the commitments undertaken in the framework of the Ibero-American Conference to eliminate discriminatory laws that prevent women from fully enjoying their economic rights and opportunities.
