Nothing about us without us: Political Participation and Accessibility (CRPD COSP11 Side-Event)
13 Jun 2018 -  Political participation of persons with disabilities and accessibility (Articles 29 and 9 of the CRPD Convention, respectively) are interrelated and interdependent goals of the Convention. On the one hand, advocacy and representation of interests is much more efficient and successful when a person with disability him- or herself has a role in legislation or policy-making. On the other hand, accessibility is a pre-requisite for participation in public life, with special regard to political participation.

The aim of the side event is to show how political participation of persons with disabilities can become a driving force for social inclusion through accessibility and innovation. Distinguished speakers will share their own experience in providing political impetus, along with expertise, for moving the accessibility agenda forward, and creating partnerships with civil society.
