Powering the Future We Want - the US $1 Million UN DESA Energy Grant
Hundreds of mothers in the developing world die each day giving birth in dark and unsafe conditions, while midwives and doctors struggle to provide life-saving care in health centers lacking electricity. We Care Solar, Winner of the 2015 UN DESA Energy Grant on "Powering the Future We Want " has been providing a reliable and portable solution that saves lives in childbirth. The compact, efficient, environmentally friendly, and sustainable Solar Suitcases have made solar power simple, accessible and affordable. In March 2017, they started a new journey to Liberia.
Powering the Future We Want offers a grant in the amount of one million US dollars to fund future capacity development activities in energy for sustainable development. The Grant is awarded to an individual, institution or partnership based on past and current achievements.
UN DESA has opened applications for its 2017 Grant on Energy for Sustainable Development. The thematic focus this year is Sustainable Energy for Eradicating Poverty and Promoting Prosperity in a Changing World.
