The 70th Anniversary of the Deportation of the Hungarian Jews during the Holocaust - DPI/NGO Briefing
23 Jan 2014 -  In this briefing, the participants will learn how the German Security Police worked with Hungarian authorities to systematically deport Jews from Hungary in May of 1944.
In less than two months, almost 440,000 Jews were deported.
Most were sent to the Auschwitz-Birkenau, German Nazi Concentration and Extermination Camp (1940-1945), but some were sent to the Hungarian border with Austria where they were forced to build fortification trenches.

Speakers will include Dr. Carol Rittner RSM, Distinguished Professor of Holocaust & Genocide Studies, The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey; Mrs. Agnes Vertes, a Hungarian Holocaust Survivor; and H.E. Mr. Csaba Kőrösi, Permanent Representative of Hungary to the United Nations. Dr. Rittner will provide the historical background, Mrs. Vertes will share her personal story of survival and Ambassador Csaba Kőrösi will provide information on how Hungary is commemorating this important anniversary.
