UN relief official: International efforts underway to aid the 7 million vulnerable in the Sahel
23 Jan 2017 -  Conflicts in Africa's Lake Chad Basin - including the Boko Haram insurgency - have rendered the humanitarian situation in the Sahel region dire, according to the UN. Over 7 million people are surviving on one meal a day, the United Nations Regional Humanitarian Coordinator, Toby Lanzer, told reporters in New York today. An upcoming conference is set to take place in Oslo, Norway, towards end of February as a part of current international efforts geared towards enabling the vulnerable communities "to take charge of their lives again."
