Women Taking the Lead: Designing and Monitoring Sustainable and Gender-Responsive Infrastructures - CSW59
12 Mar 2015 -  This panel discussion will highlight the efforts of women’s groups towards inclusive rural and urban development globally. Speakers will touch on; (1) the role of women as critical designers, implementers, and monitors of sustainable urban development; (2) the importance of bringing constituencies of grassroots women from rural, peri-urban, and urban areas with proven partnership and organizing methodologies to development planning; and (3) partnerships between networks of women’s organizations and local government and elected officials in support of policies that ensure decentralized decision-making and budgeting are responsive and accountable to communities.
CSW59 Side Event organized in partnership with the Department of Public Information (DPI), Huairou Commission, International Council of Women, Global Family, Africa Development Interchange Network, World Federation of Ukrainian Women, International Council of Jewish Women, NGO Committee on Sustainable Development and the Urban Design Lab of the Earth Institute at Columbia University.
