Humanitarian briefing on the situation in Afghanistan
2 Feb 2021 -  Afghanistan has been in protracted conflict for almost thirty five years, which has seriously hampered poverty reduction and development, strained the fabric of society and depleted its coping mechanisms.
This virtual briefing organized by United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) will be an opportunity to update Member States and partners on the 2021 humanitarian response plan for Afghanistan and to share reflections on recent high-level missions.
The briefing will be moderated by Mr. Ramesh Rajasingham, Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator a.i. It will also include remarks by:
H.E. Mrs. Adela Raz, Permanent Representative of Afghanistan to the United Nations;
Mr. Mr. Raouf Mazou, United Nations Assistant High Commissioner for Refugees;
Mr. Ramiz Alakbarov, Deputy Special Representative, Resident Coordinator and Humanitarian Coordinator for Afghanistan
Member States and partners will be given the opportunity to take the floor, followed by closing remarks. The event will be conducted in English.
