Innovative Approaches to Global Heath Financing: The WHO Investment Round and the Health Impact Investment Platform
In May the 194 Member States of the World Health Organization (WHO) approved a new strategy for global health. Forty million lives can be saved through this comprehensive strategy by deploying the latest technology to tackle infectious disease, deploying cost-effective measures to address the biggest causes of death like high blood pressure, mitigating the impact of climate on health, and making sure the world is ready for outbreaks that could turn into the next pandemic.
To achieve these objectives, we need more impactful financing for health – both for countries, and for the WHO so that countries' efforts can be supported and coordinated. Crucially, there is a greater need for financial innovation to identify new actors and financing mechanisms to deploy more, as well as more effective and sustainable funding for global health.
