Inclusive city development needs an enabling environment: strong political will, transparent legal frameworks, responsive urban plans and designs and effective financial plans. Social inclusion is about promoting equality and improving participation, particularly for people who are disadvantaged.

Cities can provide adequate housing, basic services, green and safe public spaces, and public transportation, accessible for all. As such, it implies enhancing people's opportunities, abilities, dignity, access to resources and voice in decision-making. It targets not only the urban poor, but also the most affected minorities. This roundtable will look at existing tools and methodologies to promote social inclusion in urban areas.
