The United Nations Habitat Assembly is a universal body composed of the 193 Member States of the United Nations. It serves as the main legislative body for global urban policymaking and is the highest decision-making authority on housing, urbanization and human settlements.
At its second session, held in Nairobi in June 2023, the United Nations Habitat Assembly adopted several key resolutions – including on adequate housing for all, the transformation of informal settlements and slums, and guidelines on people-centred smart cities. The resumed second session primarily aims to conclude outstanding matters carried over from the adjourned session, including:
· Consideration and possible adoption of the Strategic Plan 2026–2029 with a focus on housing, land, and basic services
· Consideration and possible adoption of the international guidelines on people-centred smart cities
· Consideration and possible adoption of the stakeholder engagement policy
· Election of 36 members to the Executive Board of UN-Habitat
· Election of the Bureau of the United Nations Habitat Assembly
The Assembly will open on 29 May 2025 with a ceremonial session and will conclude on 30 May 2025.
