Summary
The objective of the meeting is to brief on the priorities of the transition and discuss opportunities to pursue and support national reconciliation. In this regard, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Cooperation and Burkinabé Abroad, and the Minister of State to the President, in charge of Social Cohesion and Reconciliation, will address the Peacebuilding Commission.

In a context of a deepening security and humanitarian crisis in Burkina Faso, a coup d'état took place on 24th January 2022, led by Lt-Col. Sandaogo Paul Henri Damiba at the helm of a new organization, the Mouvement Patriotique pour la Sauvegarde et la Restauration. The coup deposed President Roch Marc Christian Kaboré, and its authors suspended the Constitution and dissolved the Government and the National Assembly. On 1st March, the new authorities put in place a Transitional Charter with a three-year calendar towards general elections. The Transition Authorities indicated that the duration of the transition would depend on the security situation in the country.
