Building Social Resilience and Solidarity: Community-Led Approaches to Addressing Global Crises - CSocD63 Side Event
Today's accelerating crises underscore the urgent need for social resilience and solidarity, in line with the Copenhagen Declaration, the World Summit for Social Development's Programme of Action, and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Solidarity underpins universal social protection systems, which, if adequately funded, shield vulnerable groups against poverty and inequality. At the same time, social resilience enables communities to adapt to and recover from socio-economic and environmental disruptions, fostering grassroots engagement in development and strengthening community ownership.
Moreover, alternative development models beyond GDP deserve greater recognition. The Bahá'í focus on the oneness of humanity and the Sikh tradition of Langar both illustrate inclusive, community-centered approaches that benefit society at large. These examples highlight that diverse, cooperative frameworks are not just possible but crucial for sustained progress.
This event will delve deeper into these models and explore extending similar practices to other cultural and religious settings.
