POWER4Girls: invest in girls, transform the world…

The event will present a timely opportunity to focus on the progress and struggle for girls since the Beijing declaration - on where we have made strides and where we face the biggest gaps and needs for investment. It will see the launch of POWER4Girls, a first-of-its-kind global initiative working with and for girls to drive systems-level change for adolescent girls everywhere. Achieving gender equality and meeting the needs of adolescent girls requires a multi-faceted approach, driven by strong partnerships with national governments and the leadership of girls. POWER4Girls is this opportunity, aiming to accelerate at-scale action to advance girls' rights, wellbeing, and leadership, whilst influencing policy and programming work across the development-humanitarian ecosystem.

In vibrant discussion, girls and girl champions will challenge the view that girl-led initiatives are too small to drive large-scale impact, and that government systems are too large for meaningful reform. Together, they will explore how the global community can step up strategies and commitments, through aligning policy solutions and multi-sectoral service delivery with the realities of girls' lives, and through the critical role of girls' organising to drive collective and transformative impact.

UNICEF and Purposeful, with adolescent girl leaders, bring together this CSW high-level event, co-hosted by UN Women and the Governments of Sierra Leone and Canada, at the UN Secretariat ECOSOC Chamber in New York on the 10 March 2025, 11:30am-12:45pm.
