In 2015, world leaders agreed on a game plan to build a fairer, greener, more equitable world by 2030: The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The triple impact of Covid-19, rising conflict, and the climate crisis have reversed years of hard-earned development progress.

If current trends continue, 575 million people could still be living in extreme poverty, some 84 million children could be out of school and it could take 286 years to close gender gaps in legal protection. Furthermore, the opportunity to limit the rise in global temperatures to 1.5 degrees Celsius is closing quickly.

The SDGs are the universally agreed road map.

In this session we engage world leaders and experts to look into the future – what are the trends and forces for the next seven years? What is standing in the world's way to reach the SDGs? And how can we take to scale solutions for people, for planet?

And we'll dive into one of the SDGs: food systems—to explore more efficient and sustainable approaches to implement in the second half of the SDGs.

Food systems stand at the heart of many SDGs, affecting climate change, the state of hunger, poverty, economic growth, and inequalities. Sustainable food systems are crucial to the health and prosperity of people and the planet.

The UN Office for Partnerships is working with Project Everyone, a not-for-profit communications agency co-founded by SDG Advocate and the screenwriter Richard Curtis, in collaboration with artist Es Devlin, to create the SDG Pavilion, a unique convening space and art installation.

We will come together at the United Nations General Assembly from 15–22 September 2023 for the SDG Summit and a full week of Halftime Talks in the SDG Pavilion to accelerate action for people for planet.

The SDG Pavilion will host a series of Halftime Talks about mobilizing the world to keep the promise of the SDGs.
