Description

Held as a side event of the 64th session of the Commission for Social Development (CSocD64), this IFFD Briefing advances discussions on social development and social justice through coordinated, equitable, and inclusive policies. Building on IFFD's side event at the Second World Summit for Social Development (Doha, 2025), the briefing emphasizes care and support systems as essential pillars of family-oriented policy.
The event explores how governments, employers, UN agencies, and civil society can work together to support families—particularly during early childhood, when care needs are highest and parents are still developing caregiving skills. It highlights the central role of parents as primary caregivers, the importance of care infrastructure, and the need for family-friendly labour policies that enable caregivers to combine work and family responsibilities.
Special attention is given to unpaid care work, still disproportionately borne by women, and to the role of the private sector as a scalable partner in delivering family-friendly care systems, decent work, and work-life balance. The discussion aims to generate actionable policy recommendations and partnerships to inform CSocD deliberations and strengthen inclusive, family-responsive social development frameworks.
