Maternal Health Emergency in Sudan

UNFPA warned of a maternal health emergency in Sudan as conflict since April 2023 has displaced millions and crippled health services, leaving women without safe childbirth care and basic reproductive supplies, said Laila Baker, UNFPA Regional Director for Arab States. UNFPA and partners are operating through limited cross-border and in-country channels to deliver reproductive health kits, but access and funding gaps persist. Baker urged rapid, secure humanitarian access, sustained financing, and a scale-up of lifesaving reproductive health services.
